Keep Your Pets Safe During the Holidays

Sabrina (in front) and Sophie (in back) are our two Chihuahuas and they are so spoiled! They are both micro-chipped through Home Again. One of their services is to alert people in the area about lost dogs and cats in my area that are also micro-chipped through the same company. Sadly, many of these alerts come without a picture because the pet guardian never uploaded a picture to Home Again. If you have a pet that is micro-chipped, please take the time to complete the process by uploading a current picture and filling out any other information that will help find your pet!

Thanksgiving, Cyber Sales & Recipe

Do you have special memories of Thanksgiving growing up? I do - we used to sing "Over the River and Through the Woods" on the way to Grandma & Grandpa's!

Back in the 1950's growing up in Northern New York, way north of Syracuse, we used to go to Grandma & Grandpa's for Thanksgiving dinner. They owned a dairy farm, and the cows always needed to be milked so they didn't leave the farm much, and could Grandma cook!

It was really cold back then. And Grandma cooked on a wood stove. The wood room was off the kitchen and always smelled of freshly split aged wood. Her old wood stove was huge - and there was another wood stove for heat in the dining room. I remember how she hated the electric stove when she got it - I think I was in high school then.

My favorite part of Thanksgiving back then was the desserts. I don't know how Grandma baked such wonderful pies and cakes on that stove, and she never really measured. And the turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, and vegies were perfect too!

6 tart apples 3/4 cup of flour
1 cup of sugar 1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/3 cup butter Pastry for one 9 inch pie shell

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Pare apples and cut into eigths.
Mix 1/2 cup of sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkle over apples. Mix.
Put apple mixture into unbaked pie shell.

Combine remaining sugar and flour. Add butter and rub together until crumbs are formed. Sprinkle crumbs over apples.

Bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes and then reduce temperature to 350 degrees and bake 35 minutes longer.

Reheat just before serving if desired. Delicious served with a sharp cheese (I often do this for breakfast!) or with ice cream.

Do You Want To Host An Ugly Christmas Sweater Party?

Start planning your Ugly Christmas Sweater party early - everyone gets so busy and you want to make sure your friends come to your party!

Make your invitations yourself - use Print Shop or a similar program, or if you are really creative and have the time, you can make them with scrapbooking supplies - remember to use the theme of Ugly, Tacky and Gaudy throughout your planning, even in the invitations. Tell everyone to wear their Ugly Christmas Sweaters!
Another idea if you want is to ask everyone to bring a food item for the local food bank or a new,
unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Tots.
For food, keep it simple. Chile, pizza, vegies with dips - easy finger foods are best! And don't forget fruitcake - the perfect tacky dessert! You can also bake cookies in a simple sweater shape decorate with icing.

Plan on lots of Christmas music. The songs we all know and can sing along to are best. If you are lucky enough to have a piano and someone who can play, you can have alot of sing-alongs.
A fun game would be pin the antlers on the reindeer - just make sure to have plenty of antlers!
The highlight of the evening will be the Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest! Depending on the number
of people you have, you can have several categories: The Ugliest Sweater, The Silliest Sweater, The Itchiest Sweater, etc. Prizes could be inexpensive (and tacky) Christmas decorations for the
winners to take home!

Don't forget the photo op! You could make a booth, an area in front of the tree. You may want to get disposable cameras so several people could take pictures, and then share after the party - you
could e-mail them to everyone.
